The teaching, research and culture/extension activities developed in the School of Education rely on the support of Laboratories as well as Teaching and Research Centers. They assist the undergraduate and graduate courses, the university extension activities and the community services, both academic and non-academic.
Below you will find a list and a brief description of these spaces.
CEPEL – Center for Studies and Research in Language Teaching
CEPEL develops teaching, research and extension projects for foreign language teachers. It promotes seminars, lectures and meetings involving undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals who work in language institutes and schools outside the University. It enables the development of internship projects linked to the disciplines Methodology of Foreign Languages I and II, part of the Teacher Education Program at FEUSP. It also offers a free of charge six-level English course for undergraduate students of the University, as well as graduate students, faculty and staff members of FEUSP. The Laboratory for Language Teaching also offers Language Minicourses to the community and creates a space for the education of future teachers of various Languages (Spanish, Italian, French, Greek, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, German, and others) enriching the implementation of Teaching Methodology programs and promoting the teaching of mother tongue and foreign languages. In accordance with the purposes described, it promotes short courses, which are taught by student-teachers under the supervision of their professors.
CEPPPE – Center for Studies and Research in Public Policies for Education
CEPPE has a considerable number of experienced researchers, and specialists in Public Educational Policies and also with the participation of students from graduate and undergraduate courses. It has been working as an interdepartmental center of FEUSP since 1997. It aims to: 1) promote research, studies and graduate and undergraduate courses; 2) provide extension services in the area of public policy in education; and 3) organize a database of the most significant experiences in public policies in education in the country in recent decades. Since its initial organization, the Center organizes research and studies developed by its members (professors, graduate students, undergraduates and fellows for introduction to scientific research) in different lines of research: 1) Public Policy in Education; 2) Education and Participation, Democracy, Human Rights, Social Justice and Environment Preservation; 3) Education and Labor; and 4) Public Policy and Youth, Youth Violence, and New Modes of Socialization of Young People; 5) Funding of Education; 6) Educational Assessment.
CME – Memory of Education Center
The center aims to organize documents and museum archives, and to promote research, teaching and community services. It is recognized for collaborating with public schools in São Paulo in the promotion of programs to prepare teachers, students and staff to organize and display historical and permanent archives. Within its twenty years of existence, the CME has developed several research projects supported by FAPESP and has become a national and international reference in the field.
LABRIMP – Laboratory of Toys and Educational Materials
LABRIMP provides support to teacher education, developing research and promoting continuing education courses. The Brinquedoteca (toy collection) is open to children and adults who can take part in workshops and courses, as well as borrow toys. It holds guided visits and offers rooms for research.
Laboratory of Human Sciences and Means of Conducting Practical Work and Alike
The Laboratory of Human Sciences develops projects about teaching and learning with the participation of graduate and undergraduate students, as well as public school teachers. The main projects recently developed focus on the production of pedagogical materials to enhance interdisciplinary practices in the teaching of History and Geography. Furthermore, the Lab organizes seminars and study groups that involve investigations on teacher education in the field of human sciences, the history of school subjects, school practices and the epistemology of human sciences.
Laboratory of Teaching of Biological Sciences
This laboratory is connected with the disciplines Methodology of the Teaching of Biological Sciences I and II and offers resources for the enhancement of teacher education. It provides support for internships as well as for the development of teaching activities and pedagogical materials by means of individual and institutional projects focused on the improvement of the teaching of sciences and biology. It organizes meetings, seminars and research groups in the field, bringing together researchers and students from the graduate and undergraduate programs.
LAPEF – Laboratory of Teaching and Research in Physics
LAPEF develops research projects within the Undergraduate Program (in association with the disciplines Methodology of the Teaching of Physics I and II), the Graduate Program (related to the research line entitled Teaching of Sciences and Mathematics), and the Extension Program (through study groups on the teaching of Sciences). In the past few years the main foci have been on the social constructivist view of the teaching and learning of Physics in secondary schools and of Sciences in elementary schools, the relationship between Sciences and Language, and investigations about pre-service and in-service teacher education.
LEPSI – Laboratory of Studies and Psychanalytic and Educational Studies and Research on Childhood
LEPSI aims at the development of activities involving teaching, research and continuing education on childhood, in an interdisciplinary perspective underpinned by psychoanalysis. It organizes continuing education events open to the public as well as a biannual research colloquium with speakers from foreign and national Universities. It contributes to a periodical newsletter called Estilos da Clínica organized by the Institute of Psychology at USP. It is an inter-institutional laboratory, involving researchers from several departments of the School of Education and the Institute of Psychology at USP.
LALEC – Laboratory of Reading and Creative Expression
LALEC is a place for the ongoing education of Portuguese language teachers who work in different levels of schooling. It enables the development of projects carried out by undergraduate students of the pedagogy and teacher education programs, graduate students and also teachers and educators of public schools. It offers support and infrastructure – such as printed material, audiovisuals, internet and tools for distance education – for the implementation of crash courses and workshops on oral expression, reading and writing in which verbal language is a tool for knowledge construction.
LABMAT – Mathematics Laboratory
LABMAT is a place for the ongoing education of teachers, undergraduate students of the pedagogy and teacher education programs in Mathematics as well as graduate students. It offers extension courses and the Pedagogical Workshop in Mathematics enabling access to both information and teaching materials. It develops an internship project called Mathematics Club whose aim is to foster discussions about classroom practices and the production of activities, games and problem-solving tasks for the teaching of mathematics.
LAPEQ – Laboratory of Research and Teaching of Chemistry
LAPEQ develops activities in teaching, research and continuing education for chemistry and science teachers, with scientific procedures as the core of the teaching and learning processes. It gives support to students, teachers and researchers of educational chemistry, making available physical resources such as glasses, reagents and counters, as well as an online communication environment hosted by KEKULE (at kekule.fe.usp.br). It renders not only aspects of “wet ashing” but also elements of simulation and production of instructional resources for meaningful learning.
LADESP – Special Education Teaching Laboratory
LADESP aims to provide essential elements for initial and continuing education of students and education professionals concerning the school attendance of persons with disabilities, pervasive developmental disorders and high ability, with the aim of guaranteeing quality education for all. Its specific objectives are to establish partnerships with public and private institutions of special education and social movements; to develop knowledge of the preparation of instructional materials to support people with disabilities and other special educational needs; to produce, analyze, catalog and make available various types of instructional materials, specially equipment, specific literature and other documents for public consultation and research; to guide and empower students, faculty and staff, providing them with elements of reflection, awareness and mastery of pedagogical practices and procedures concerning the construction of the school including social attitudes; to establish exchange with other laboratories, centers and groups at USP or external institutions that have an interface with the area of interest of Ladesp.
LADPAE – School Policy and Administration Didatic Laboratory

Lab_Arte – Experimental Art-Education & Culture Laboratory
Lab_Arte bridges a gap in the education of the pedagogue, providing experimentation with Arts in several languages, from an anthropological perspective that takes into consideration the ethnic, cultural and artistic diversity of the Brazilian population. It offers room for theoretical and experimental debates, student exhibitions and performances in recitals, as well as community interventions in partner projects. It comprises four areas of experimentation: Theater, Body & Movement, Music and Visual Arts. Two other areas are being organized: Circus Art and Poetry. It holds colloquiums, study groups, and is involved in several international cooperation activities.
LIET – Integrated Laboratory of Teaching and Technology
This technological laboratory gives support to all academic activities at FEUSP, both in the undergraduation and graduation programs, as well as for the extension activities. Professors and staff educators (from the other Laboratories and Centers at FE or the School of Application) use the space for didatic activities with students since it provides more sophisticated technological resourses.
MEB – Museum of Education and Toy
MEB has a collection of toys, games, pedagogical materials, books, and photographs, all of which organized for exhibitions open to the public. Guided visits focus on the importance of ludic learning and promote experimenting with games and plays. MEB also offers workshops on games based on projects developed with the participation of undergraduate students.
NIEPHE – Interdisciplinary Group of Studies and Research in the History of Education
NIEPHE is a privileged place for theoretical and methodological debates in the fields of history of education, organization of archives, collection and systematization of sources and data for research, as well as the socialization of results in events, books and journals. It houses investigations carried out by undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate researchers and organizes a research group certified by the School of Education, registered in the CNPq Directory of Study Groups in Brazil. The NIEPHE develops the project “From multiple strategies of schooling to the constitution of schools in Brazil (1870-1970)”, composed by two main subprojects: “Multiple strategies of childhood schooling” and “Multiple strategies of adolescent and adult schooling”.
TEIA USP – Education and Environment Laboratory
TEIA-USP aims at bringing together undergraduation and graduation students, Professors and Researchers from several Institutes/Colleges at USP, mainly from the Institute of Geosciences (IGc), School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities (EACH/ Environmental Management) and the School of Education (FEUSP). The space focuses on action-research, development of investigative projects and knowledge production on Environmental Education in Brazil, mainly in São Paulo State. It also promotes Teacher education activities and Study groups, meetings and seminars, as well as structures activities in partnerships with other Environamental Education Research groups in Brazil.
